To express the feeling of old fabric, we developed an uneven thread, which was produced under non-computer oriented production in the past. We made this to produce thick and thin parts on one twisted thread. This thread is then used for warp and weft in our vintage collection.

For that feeling of old fabric, we used the “shuttle-weaving machine” to produce 13 oz Japanese Selvage Denim. You will notice the white/red Selvage when they are rolled up. We’ve named it 日の丸 Selvage (Hinomaru Selvage) and it features the same colour combination as the Japanese National Flag.

The wash is made to look like the denim is worn out with uneven colours across the denim including the extension & contortion of around the waist that a Vintage denim provides. The denim is carefully worked by skilled craftsmen to get the desired results…

We visited Rudy at ‘Son Of a Stag‘ on Dray Walk in East London earlier in the week as I needed to take a few cm’s off my new ED71’s in Japanese Red Listed Selvage.
He kindly obliged and performed a swift operation using his much sought after union machines. That is what I call good customer service.
For anyone needing amendments, I strongly recommend paying him a visit.
Happy Days!

Whilst in London we ate some breakfast at this place called The Breakfast Club.
I really like the décor here, I mean, its really ‘sourced’ reclaimed junk, but really well done I think. I felt very relaxed munching on a ‘full monty’ which I could not even finish….damn that thing is like a continent!
And next to a ‘KING’ 12” (below)… Made me feel quite strange, like I had actually accidentally fallen through a worm hole in time…
I almost ordered a ‘coke float’ before thinking about taking my date to see the premier of footloose
Maybe it was the hangover!

We visited the kind fellows at Sane Communications, who have recently (the day prior) moved to a wonderful new location in East London.
Steve, Su and Ben, we wish you much happiness in your new found home and good luck with the installation of it all!
Many years ago, the sewers used to be open in this part of London and the Police would refuse to police. I visited their bathroom and can confirm that this is no longer the case. Thank goodness for small luxuries…

A bit more about the upcoming W-Craft Denim…
The woven back pocket label features a ‘Ichimatsu Monyou’ or ‘check’ and is a very familiar image from Japanese history. (The colour combination white/red/blue is unified with selvage)
The buttons and rivets are simple and clean. The edge of button represents the decorative thumbtack which was used for the gates of Japanese castles and temples.
The Japanese find beauty in imperfection. Using this philosophy the leather label was created. Deep blue, blurred and uneven.
The pocket bag stamp takes it’s inspiration from a passport and travelling in general. It reads: ‘Immigration – Departed – Made in Japan – 1947′

Back in 2009 we featured an interview in ED Zine – Issue 1 with Mark Westmoreland who kindly made us pair of jeans.
The One denim jean was created over a year ago – the end product of a prototype that took Westmoreland four years to produce, in conjunction with the Shiotoni brothers of Japan.
The US cotton used to produce the One jean is dyed and woven near Hiroshima at a family run mill. A combination of vintage features from Levi’s, Lee, Boss of the Road, Stronghold and Wrangler; an exclusive 100 pairs of ‘One’ jeans will only be available from five retailers worldwide.
A labour of love, his own creation, made with his own fair hands.
