Antoine and Nadege’s daughter, AKA “Bebe Mouche”

Today we can get a closer look at the Lumber Used Wash available as part of the Fall/Winter 2010 Collection across a selection of styles. The style shown is the ED-39.

Lumber Used is a dark used wash, giving the denim subtle wear patterns and light scraping on the thighs and across the back of the knee.

The Fall/Winter 2010 collection has started to arrive in stores across Europe, so now is as good a time as any to take a closer look at some key pieces…

The latest collection is centered around the development of new and exclusive washes. We have begun to work with European factories in an effort to elevate the collection to the high aesthetic standards set by the Japanese washes, and it has worked.

The collection presents a ‘lived in’ feel defined by the post-Vietnam sentiments of movies such as Badlands and The Deer Hunter, it echoes the rugged escapism of the road…

The images presented here are those that reflect these ideas. A collection of Portraits that reflect the mood of the collection.

This weekend the W.A.R Hot Rod and Art Show sponsored by EDWIN took place in Weil am Rhein. The show was organised by the ‘Road Devils CC Europe’ and Smokin Shutdown Magazine.

The show featured special guests such as ‘Lil Daddy Roth’ (Kustom Car builder and artist) and ‘Steve Caballero‘ (pro skater, hot rodder and artist)

With many more artists and of course kustom cars and hot rods, we’ll bring you all the photos over the next couple of days…

On the way back to the EDWIN Bunker we stopped for a couple of days in Northern Brazil to relax after a hectic time in Rio.

This weekend we made it to a photo exhibit by Fernando Maselli called “Vistas Aéreas”

He takes an aesthetic view of a technique typically used for scientific or military purposes to demonstrate how we are constantly changing our environment and how development and “progress” force us to search for new resources as we adapt nature to our needs.

At the Sala Ultravioleta, Madrid until August 30.

Here is a quick look at our photo collaboration in Madrid with 24Reel.

This time our victim is Miguel Caravaca, a supercreative guy who opened Madrid’s first bike store specialising in Fixies, called Blacktrack. Located on a backstreet in the Mala Saña district, this unique shop has fast become the place to sort out all of your bicycle needs and a reference for all bicycle lovers alike.

You can also catch Miguel’s wild DJ sets in some of Madrid’s coolest clubs.

After sending a couple of copies of ‘ED’ Zine to the guys at Zineswap, the exchange was complete this week when an envelope arrived at EDWIN HQ.

Including Grey Matter by Wayne Kehoe & Mickey Deez by Kevin Hayes.

Grey Matter uses different paper stocks, paper sizes and printing techniques; opening and reading the publication is a miniature journey of discovery and includes an 8 track CD.

Mickey Deez is more of a photo Zine, edition of 1000, 50 pages – Perfect bound, Color / B & W.

OK so it’s not denim, or even indigo for that matter, but it’s not going to stop us posting it up on here…

Another find from the Vintage Market in Lyon, an amazing Swiss Army Camo Combat Jacket.

A heavy duty cotton jacket packed full of details including zips, poppers, a lot of pockets and also comes complete with hood and backpack.

Nothing really rare but so many interesting details on it.

This weekend we finally made it to see ‘Extraordinary Measures‘ at Belsay House in the UK.

‘Extraordinary Measures’ explores and plays with our concept of scale, with some amazing work on display including Slinkachu (above), Ron Mueck’s realistic sculptures and Tessa Farmer’s squirrel battle scene.

Running until 26th September, worth a look for Ron Mueck’s sculptures alone, including a 9ft Wild Man and a Spooning Couple (below) to name a few. It hurts my head to think about how these sculptures were actually made. Frightening detail!

A date for the diaries…

For the month of June the Orange Dot Gallery is proud to announce an exciting exhibition from ZineSwap, which brings you the rare opportunity to view their vast archive collection of contemporary zine publishing in a very special installation.

A second chance to see our very own ED Zines alongside different artists and individuals zine creations.

Apparently, no longer a crime…

This weekend, Rey’s wife arranged a surprise birthday party inviting friends over from London to stay…

We BBQ’d, drank fine wines and then decided that too much of a good thing and all that… So we went to check out the BASQUIAT exhibition at the BEYELER Gallery in Basel.

The exhibition was unbelievably good. 10 Rooms, 25 pieces including the Refrigerator and two short films.

He died young at 27 (part of the 27 club I guess) having produced an unbelievable amount of artwork in the eight years prior 1000 paintings and 2000 drawings, truly inspiring.

Anyone with the slightest interest in this artist, art, colour or whatever should make the trip the see this exhibition as its worth seeing all of this under one roof at one time.

Friends Machine 17 and Best One had to have a sit down and ingest a sugary drink after the show.

Down the road was a free gallery showing a selection of photos from his graffiti days when he wrote, ‘SAMO©’.

After that we visited the VITRA design museum before dropping off Machine 17 at the airport. Some nice architecture and very nice polished formed concrete.

Oh, yes it is…

The third issue of the ED Zine has kept us up for days, and is now finally ready to be produced…

Next stop was Kent to visit Mark in his Studio…

At the weekend, Pierre, Benny, Dylan and Rey were in London shooting the SS11 collection on some friends, capturing them at home or in their prefer environment.

We want to thank all of our friends who allowed this motley crew into your private homes, to photograph you in EDWIN product. For making us tea, providing us with biscuits, cooking us meals and generally putting up with our tedious jokes about how Benny (above) was ‘mummy’s little soldier’, having braved a nasty fall cutting up all his hands and legs, at 3am Friday night before we started shooting after running like a lunatic through Hackney trying to avoid large raindrops….and still being able to steady himself with a hand, that to be fair, would NOT have looked out of place on a plate with a few roast potatoes, gravy, stuffing, sprouts and a few Yorkshire puddings…

So thank you all for you kind contributions and hospitality!

Our first update from the One Percenters…

“We started the race today around midday on Sunday, it’s great fun. There was a traditional band of drummers playing and about 40 tuk tuks lined up to start. We didn’t have the best start as we stalled the engine at the start line, then out of fuel whilst driving a lap of the town with all the other teams…oops! After we got some fuel, we then couldn’t find the right road to the bridge to leave the island, so we drove around lost for a while and had to ask for directions. We finally left Cochin and headed off north.

We have now arrived at a place called Mannar, high up in some mountains that grow tea. The views are great. On the way here we got caught in a huge storm, lots of rain, lightning and thunder. We had to stop and get the bags off the roof to stop them from getting wet. What an eventful day.

Dyl and I are now in a restaurant having dinner, then an early bed so we can get going early. Its a lot cooler here, so we should get a good sleep tonight.

We are heading for a place called Didingul on the way to Pondicherry in a few days”

A good friend of Edwin gave us these two pairs of jeans, known only as Model 17 (Left) and Model 2 (Right). They have been worn for over 5 years now and have had a fair few washes.

GOOD LUCK CHAPS and GOD SPEED !!!!

Edwin would like to thank all of you who have supported our charity event, by purchasing the ‘FREEDOM RUN’ tee shirt.

The funds have enabled us to donate enough in order to fill a 40ft lorry destined for a primary and secondary school in Stone Town, Zanzibar in Tanzania !

The lorry is en route and we will have photos of the equipment in place within the schools highlighting the importance of the charity in helping in a small way the the education of these underprivileged children.

We feel very proud to be working with the ‘Education for All’ charity in this capacity.

The boys, Simon and Dylan have embarked this weekend on their 5000km adventure in a 150cc Three wheeled, Seven Horse power brutally powerful machine….

Starting in Cochin in Kerala (Southern India) and hopefully ending up across the finish line in Gantok in Sikkim (Himalayas) in two weeks time…

Donning the charity tees, Edwin jeans, travelling at light speed in an EDWIN sponsored machine !!!!!

We will keep you updated as and when we receive more information from the ‘One Percenters’ EDWIN boys…no easy task given their concentration in avoiding oncoming traffic, overtaking, undertaking, avoiding elephants, chickens, bikes, lorries, buses and all on dirt track roads in +40 degree heat….

Custom In-house Furniture have kindly constructed and donated a unique denim sofa which they are auctioning. This denim bean bag sofa symbolises the environmental ethics embedded in Education for All – reuse and sustainability.

A good friend of ours put together this lamp made entirely of old photo slides…

The post title says it all!

We arrived in Stockholm earlier today for the “Three by One” Store opening tonight.

First flavours of Sweden : Sunshine, -4c , Hot Dogs…

To express the feeling of old fabric, we developed an uneven thread, which was produced under non-computer oriented production in the past. We made this to produce thick and thin parts on one twisted thread. This thread is then used for warp and weft in our vintage collection.

For that feeling of old fabric, we used the “shuttle-weaving machine” to produce 13 oz Japanese Selvage Denim. You will notice the white/red Selvage when they are rolled up. We’ve named it 日の丸 Selvage (Hinomaru Selvage) and it features the same colour combination as the Japanese National Flag.

The wash is made to look like the denim is worn out with uneven colours across the denim including the extension & contortion of around the waist that a Vintage denim provides. The denim is carefully worked by skilled craftsmen to get the desired results…

The Tinker Tailor Project has been up and running for a couple of weeks, and by now you will be able to see exactly what is going on.

In the pursuit of the perfect denim wash we are embarking on a project spanning 12 months that will see modern day Tinkers live and breathe in their Edwin’s.

The community in now alive and online, go and visit this poetic mess and follow the lives of this random cross section of our community living in their jeans…

We are very excited to see how this will evolves through the year, finishing with exhibitions of the participants denim in Paris, London and Berlin…

We visited Rudy at ‘Son Of a Stag‘ on Dray Walk in East London earlier in the week as I needed to take a few cm’s off my new ED71’s in Japanese Red Listed Selvage.

He kindly obliged and performed a swift operation using his much sought after union machines. That is what I call good customer service.

For anyone needing amendments, I strongly recommend paying him a visit.

Whilst in London we ate some breakfast at this place called The Breakfast Club.

I really like the décor here, I mean, its really ‘sourced’ reclaimed junk, but really well done I think. I felt very relaxed munching on a ‘full monty’ which I could not even finish….damn that thing is like a continent!

And next to a ‘KING’ 12” (below)… Made me feel quite strange, like I had actually accidentally fallen through a worm hole in time…

I almost ordered a ‘coke float’ before thinking about taking my date to see the premier of footloose

Many years ago, the sewers used to be open in this part of London and the Police would refuse to police. I visited their bathroom and can confirm that this is no longer the case. Thank goodness for small luxuries…
