• mixED 15 – King So So
    Apr 7, 2015

This month, we take a dip in the Lake of Sweet Dreams and dance with the animals on the shore as we bring you “Afterglow In The Sky – Chapter One” by King So So.

It is not entirely clear if King So So was born on planet Earth or somewhere in the sky. Some biographies claim that King So So grew up with wolves in the deep forests of Siberia but later in his life studied taxidermy at the University of the Sky.

However, as no biography on his life is regarded as neither accurate nor based on first-hand knowledge, it is not even clear if King So So is actually a man. Some lesbian groups (note: especially in South Africa and Australia), claim that King So So is in actual fact, a woman.

Rumour has it that King So So opened the Disco in the Sky after suffering from a severe bout of depression due to loneliness and intense attacks of melancholy.

Some die-hard fans believe that King So So set himself alight in the Disco in the Sky, after an unfortunate event when a disco ball fell on his favourite flamingo, and instantly killed her. Allegedly the Disco in the Sky remains open, and around the world, fans believe that it is the only path to ultimate enlightenment.

  • mixED 14 – FKCLUB
    Mar 20, 2015

Keeping this one close to home, the latest mixED release features Laurent’s partner in crime and the other half of La Decadanse, Marc Lapeyre aka FKCLUB.

In our opinion, the Marseille-based producer is one of the most talented out there at the moment, producing music for both movies and commercials with his new EP set to be released on 26th March on Astro Lab Recordings, complete with a Pilooski remix.

  • mixED 13 – Lauer
    Mar 3, 2015

The latest mixED release comes courtesy of Frankfurt-based producer, musician and DJ Phillip Lauer. Starting life dedicated to hip-hop and punk rock, Phillip finally succumbed to the pleasures of electronic music in the late nineties when he started to produce deep house tracks.

We spotted Phillip Lauer as part of Arto Mwambe and instantly fell in love with the atmosphere of his tracks. An amazing DJ, that you’ll often find playing at Robert Johnson in Frankfurt as well as a seasoned producer, working on projects such as Permanent Vacation, LIVE at Robert Johnson, DFA and a load more.

Lauer has also managed to find the time to team up Gerd Janson under the Tuff City Kids alias, starting life as a remix project, the partnership quickly evolved to include original productions for labels like Unterton and Delsin.

  • mixED 12 – Saschienne
    Feb 20, 2015

To welcome the weekend, Laurent has enlisted the musical talents of Saschienne for our latest mixED release to accompany their new EP, Golden Prints on KOMPAKT.

As Saschienne, Sascha Funke formed a duo with multi-talented instrumentalist, singer and wife Julienne Dessagne (The Twins), creating a sound previously unknown to anyone following his solo work.

To us, they are possibly the most brilliant and cool couple in the music industry, Saschienne is the perfect blend of Sascha and Julienne’s universe.

  • mixED – Valentine’s Edition
    Feb 13, 2015

Ahh, Valentine’s Day, to some it’s a time to be showered with love and affection, then there are others who would rather punch Cupid in the face!

Thanks to Laurent, we bring you a romantic edition of mixED full of disco, funk and cheese, whether you like it or not!

  • mixED 11 – Laurent Pastor
    Feb 3, 2015

Now we’re firmly into double figures, we thought it was about time to properly introduce the man behind the mixED music series, Laurent Pastor.

Founder of Astro Lab Recordings, Laurent originally launched his radio show to showcase the hard to find music that adorned the shelves in his house. Almost nine years on, Astro Lab now works closely with an eclectic mix of up and coming artists, pairing them with more established acts such as Ivan Smagghe and Andrew Weatherall to name a few.

These days, I think a lot about the Californian way of life, road trippin’ between Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert. To me, this mix really sums up the tracks you’d hear out on the open road, passing motels and beaches, while still finding time to sunbathe and skate.

We hope it brightens up your Tuesday afternoon!

  • mixED 10 – Scott Fraser
    Jan 23, 2015

To ease you into the weekend, we bring you the latest release from the mixED series by Scott Fraser, a rare selection of dark disco, slo-mo techno and everything in-between.

One of the founders of Crimes of the Future along with Timothy J. Fairplay, Scott is based in London where he shares Andrew Weatherall’s studio, Bunker.

In my opinion, Scott is one of the best producers out there at the moment, already releasing a couple of amazing EP’s and remixes for ASTRO LAB Recordings, as well as Horn Wax, Especial and World Unknown.

I’ve had the chance to play with him a couple of times recently in Nantes and at Sonar in Barcelona, as both a DJ and a live act, so I’m really happy to share his eclectic mix of hard to find records.Laurent Pastor.

  • mixED 9 – Pilooski
    Jan 6, 2015

To kick things off in 2015, Laurent asked French DJ, Pilooski to put together the latest instalment of mixED, bringing you a selection of weird soul, pop and electronic music.

I’ve been a big fan of Pilooski’s work for a long time now, not only as a DJ and music selector, but also as a producer and remixer for the likes of Brian Ferry, Jarvis Cocker, Baxter Dury and LCD Soundsystem. If that wasn’t enough, Pilooski has also been a consultant for brands such as Hermès and Lanvin as well as for several films and TV commercials.

Expect a dreamy, drummy, cinema infused mix, full of marimbas, spooky synths, children at church and pop dissonance. Enjoy!

  • mixED 8 – Hardway Bros.
    Dec 19, 2014

For the latest mixED, we have called on the Acid House Veteran, Techno Survivor, Beard Scientist and Freelance Disco Consultant, Sean Johnston, to end the year on a high.

Sean’s DJ’ing style described by FACT Magazine as “Future Disco” is hard to pin down to one convenient genre, taking in house, disco, re-edits, techno and frankly anything else that takes his fancy.

Alongside Andrew Weatherall, he runs and DJ’s at A Love From Outer Space. The night’s manifesto is to never knowingly exceed 122bpm and is home to a multitude of genres including ambient, balearica, dub, krautrock, post punk, proto house, un-disco and other curiosities from the pair’s extensive record collections.

Here’s a classic form that has been abused, lived in, faded, worn thin, patched up and yet is totally unique. It’s my take on disco, but the description could equally apply to a great pair of jeans….

  • mixED 7 – VoX LoW
    Dec 2, 2014

The latest instalment of mixED has been produced by VoX LoW, an interesting new project from a Parisian duo who have been with Astro Lab Recordings for over two years.

mixED 7 brings together a selection of VoX LoW tracks along with an eclectic mix of new wave and rock.

Their new EP will be released in January and will include an exclusive Ivan Smagghe remix.

  • mixED 6 – Red Axes
    Nov 4, 2014

For the month of November, Laurent Pastor has enlisted the help of Red Axes to produce the latest mixED release.

Originally part of a new-wave / post punk band called Red Cotton, the Tel Aviv-based duo, Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi returned to Israel after travelling Europe and began an underground psychedelic electronic party series called “Break It!”

mixED 6 was recorded earlier in the year while Red Axes were in Cologne, throwing together an impromptu mix of some of their favourite records.

  • mixED 5 – The Asphodells
    Oct 7, 2014

This month Laurent Pastor welcomes The Asphodells, a collaboration between Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J. Fairplay.

Fairplay originally operated as Weatherall’s engineer, working from a room in the basement of the near-mythical Scrutton Street studio alongside analogue alchemists, Richard Fearless, Daniel Avery and Scott Fraser. The pair went on to form production duo, The Asphodells, releasing their first LP, a glorious celebration of mid period factory records, post punk and electronica, inspired by John Betjeman and Ar Kane.

mixED 5 brings you an eclectic mix of psychedelic dance music inspired by dub, disco and post-punk.

  • mixED 4 – Justin Robertson
    Sep 2, 2014

The month of September sees DJ Laurent Pastor introduce producer and DJ, Justin Robertson for the fourth instalment of mixED.

The term legend is often banded about far too easily, but in this case it is entirely accurate! Justin brings with him a rich history as one of the creators of the Electronic Music scene, as well as a restless need to push forward and innovate, making him one of the most relevant DJ’s around.

I’ve tried to traverse the spectrum in terms of moods, soothing and turbulent in equal parts, something intriguing, something new, but with a scent of the familiar, much like a good pair of jeans…

  • mixED 3 – Ivan Smagghe
    Aug 5, 2014

The next in the series of curated mixtapes by DJ Laurent Pastor introduces Ivan Smagghe, France’s most wanted radio host and selector.

Standing at the crossroads between glamorous parisian hype and musical integrity, Ivan has the ability to play music like a raw conduit between his famously obscure records and the dancefloor’s strobe-soaked bodies, injecting something of himself seamlessly into the mix along the way.

I like music. I like jeans. I like good music and I like good jeans, both need to be worn to fit. It has nothing to do with technique, actually you need to see the seams. I hope it will fit someone else more than just me, but hey, I’m wearing the trousers.

  • mixED 2 – The Twins
    Jul 1, 2014

mixED 2 welcomes the truly fantastic Dessagne Twins from Saint-Etienne…

A four-season road trip, between class and bling. Cold breezes, indian summer and hot boulevards. Enough to give your ears a sun tan. All patchwork’ed with Love from The Twins. Enjoy (or get a fake tan).

The multi-talented instrumentalist and singer Julienne Dessagne is the mastermind behind The Twins: drawing on her broad connoisseurship of dance music’s sonic fringes, she likes to conjure up massive synth drones and swooping vocal textures, all aligned by a particularly strong sense of melody and ambience. This results in a highly immersive amalgam of different electronic eras, as inciting as it is intoxicating.

  • MixED 1 – C.A.R.
    Jun 3, 2014

MixED 1 marks the launch of a series of curated mixtapes by DJ Laurent Pastor, founder of Astro Lab Recordings; originally a radio show launched to showcase the hard to find music that adorned the shelves in his house.

The first release for Edwin Europe introduces the luminous, poetic and radical, C.A.R., the new project of Chloé Raunet, singer of former London coldwave band Battant. She now writes, composes and produces on her own.

Dark like denim, unwashed & starched. Like summer in London – a bit cool and collected.

  • EDMIX IV – Sacha Mambo (Macadam Mambo)
    Apr 15, 2014

    Macadam Mambo

Edwin Europe presents the fourth instalment of the ongoing EDMIX series with an uplifting and sometimes surprising mix by Sacha Mambo: the founder of the Macadam Mambo label, producer and resident DJ at Le Sucre in Lyon.

Knowing music doesn’t mean specialising in one particular style, far from it!!

  • Hold Youth for Edwin Europe
    Jul 10, 2013

A live recording by Hold Youth (Seuil & LeLoup) for Edwin Europe at Distant Relatives open air Party during Nuits Sonores Festival.

Thanks to Propagang Production and ED’N LEGS.

  • EDMIX III – Tiedye
    Jun 25, 2013

The third instalment of the EDMIX series comes courtesy of Swedish DJ’s Anton Qlint & Edvin Edvinson, better known in the music world as Tiedye.

Signed to the “Italians Do It Better” record label, the Gothenburg based producers have put together an eclectic mix of progressive pop, boogie rock 70′s disco and funk.

  • EDMIX II – Marcus Worgull
    Nov 7, 2012

Today we are very proud to present our second mix by Marcus Worgull.

Marcus is a talented artist from Innervisions Records and the owner of the famous record store Groove Attack (Koln DE). In this mix you will be listening to some tracks from his upcoming EP, made in collaboration with Osunlade, Pete Pardeike and Frank Wiedemann from Âme.

Vielen Danke Marcus! We can’t wait to see you play soon somewhere!

  • EDMIX I – Vidal Benjamin
    May 30, 2012

The very first mix from Edwin HQ features Vidal Benjamin.

Listen above using Soundcloud, or click through to our dedicated page to download the mix for yourself.

Raised on disco’s chubby bosom from a very young age, Vidal Benjamin (Tigersushi Bass System/Noncollective/Blackdisco) has always considered this musical genre as the home port to his many sonic journeys.

He was initiated to balearism and house during a trip in Ibiza in 1988 and his selections reflect these musical tendencies while surpassing them through each of his new vinyl record discoveries. He gained an international reputation via his mixes for his NY friend, Lovefingers. These days he’s an active member of a posse of aesthetes who aren’t bound by frontiers or genres.

Read more about Vidal in his latest interview with Hell’s Kitchen (French)
